New Holly Neighborhood Council
Purpose
The Council is the umbrella for a number of New Holly committees and afforts. These inlcude Traffic Safety, Parks and Multi-Cultural Communication, as well as four times yearly Neighborhood Nights to bring this diverse community of renters and homeowners, elders and youth together around common interests.
Committees
Multi-Cultural Committee: promotes understanding and respect across ou r diverse community through such things as movie and dinner nights , guided conversations about race, class, and culture, and the development of a multi-cultural New Holly cookbook
- Welcome Wagon: welcomes new neighbors with a basket of useful items and coupons for neighborhood businesses
- Parenting Committee: promotes good parenting through learning new skills and providing fun and connections for parents. Next event: "Mom's Spa Night Out" in mid-May with pampering for busy NewHolly moms!
- Parks, Traffic and Safety Committee: addresses issue s to improve parks, traffic and safety. Has received a $15,000 grant for the development of signage welcoming people to New Holly and cautioning them to watch for children.
News blurb
A Ribbon of Park Association has been formed to work on a continuity of green space within the neighborhood. At the center of current focus are three parks: Van Asselt, John C. Little and Othello Park.
The ROPA steering committee is in the process of hiring a consultant to work with neighborhood groups to develop a plan and/or process for future improvements in those three parks. ROPA has developed a time line and is in the process of developing its own page for this web site. The projected date for their first community meeting will be Feb. 20, 2010. Be sure to reserve the date.
